About the Role

We are seeking a Vice President to join our Product Engineering group. This senior individual contributor role is crucial for building the next-generation platform for Oaktree's credit business, a key investment strategy. The role involves hands-on, daily coding to build data-intensive applications, manage data pipelines, and create user interfaces for investment professionals, aiming to scale the credit business and enhance investment professional effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Build and own critical components of the credit platform end-to-end, from data pipelines and services to user-facing applications.
  • Design and implement performant, reliable, and evolving data-intensive applications, including ingestion pipelines, transformation layers, analytical engines, and APIs.
  • Contribute to modernizing Oaktree's technology stack, shaping platform evolution, advocating for experienced-based approaches, and informing technical decisions.
  • Collaborate directly with business stakeholders and investment professionals to understand goals, workflows, and pain points, translating them into high-value engineering work.
  • Act as the de facto product owner for platform areas, prioritizing work, defining MVPs, running experiments, iterating quickly, and making trade-off decisions based on user value and business impact.
  • Apply generative AI thoughtfully across work to enhance development velocity, improve code quality, augment analytical capabilities, and build AI-powered features, ensuring rigor in validation, transparency, and responsible use.
  • Mentor and elevate engineers through design and code reviews, setting a high standard for craft and ownership.
  • Implement modern development and release practices, including CI/CD, feature flags, automated testing, and observability.
  • Champion data-driven experimentation and continuous feedback loops, using telemetry and analytics to inform product and engineering decisions.
  • Clearly communicate trade-offs to both technical and business audiences, framing engineering decisions in terms of outcomes.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering with a proven track record of building and owning data-intensive systems in production.
  • Daily coding expectation and ability to maintain this practice.
  • Proven success as a senior individual contributor or staff/principal engineer in complex domains like financial services, infrastructure, or data platforms.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, concurrency, distributed systems, and performance.
  • Deep expertise in designing systems for processing, transforming, and serving large data volumes, including data modeling, pipeline architecture, storage trade-offs, and query performance.
  • Proficiency in Python and at least one statically typed, compiled language (e.g., C#/.NET, C++, Java, Scala, Go).
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and modern cloud-native patterns (microservices, event-driven architectures, containerization, infrastructure as code).
  • Comfort operating without a traditional PM structure, engaging directly with stakeholders, navigating ambiguity, prioritizing independently, and owning outcomes from problem definition to delivery.
  • Strong product instinct, connecting technical execution with user needs and business outcomes.
  • Skilled at mentoring engineers and influencing without authority.
  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable discussing technical details with engineers and strategic priorities with business leaders.
