About the Role

Perform technical duties associated with the delivery of pharmaceutical services, including medication distribution and inventory management, sterile and non-sterile compounding, medication reconciliation, and cross-functional proficiency. Individuals shall embody and uphold the ideals of the Standards of Professional behavior, as well as practice and promote patient-centered care and fiscal responsibility.

Responsibilities

Supports and maintains regular review of medication systems, automated dispensing machine, code carts, Kitcheck, Pharmogistics, Accuprint, OR replenishment, and restocks in an appropriate/timely manner.
Ensures proper medication movement through rotation of stock based on expiration and usage patterns.
Removes expired or soon-to-be-expiring medications from inventory distribution as per departmental guidelines.
Properly receives medications from wholesale and replenishes pharmacy stock accurately.
Prepares sterile and non-sterile compounding products safely and consistent with current standards of practice and hospital policy.
Appropriately completes cleanroom standards and documentation, per departmental guidelines.
Performs necessary mathematical calculations and drug product manipulation, dilution, or compounding to accurately prepare/label unit dose oral solids/liquids/injectable according to policy and regulatory standards.
Improves medication safety by assisting pharmacists to collect up-to-date prior-to-admission medication lists for patients.
Utilizes all available resources to obtain the best possible medication list.
Updates and clarifies allergy information in the patient's electronic health record.
Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit.
Remains adaptable to using basic office equipment and pharmaceutical devices to support job functions.
Familiar with and able to perform basic functions of specialty technician assignments.
Assures adequate documentation and knowledge of Pharmacy/Hospital Policies and Procedures to ensure compliance with joint commission and regulatory standards under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
Demonstrates proficiency and mastery of various technologies utilized in the provision of pharmaceutical care, including EMR, automated dispensing system, Inventory Management software, carousel, Packaging software, Sterile Product Pharmacy Workflow Manager, Barcode Labeling programs, and RFID Technology.
Communicates problems to the pharmacist, including any special or technical problems related to patient care.
Meets performance expectations for Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, and Staff and Self Development.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent required.
Previous hospital experience as a Pharmacy Technician preferred.
Community/retail pharmacy technician experience or academic training/experience in health-related fields also considered.
Registration with the State of Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection is required by completion of probationary period.
Active Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or equivalent certification is required on or within 1 year of date of hire.
Weekend availability is required (position typically covers every other weekend).
Ability to effectively work with computer and technology equipment, including the ability to perform basic troubleshooting related to said technology.
