About the Role

Elsevier is seeking an enthusiastic Senior Publisher to manage a portfolio of journals primarily focused on Dentistry. This role involves maintaining, developing, and taking complete publishing responsibility for a defined list of journals, balancing scientific knowledge with entrepreneurial and networking skills. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in industry developments, particularly concerning Artificial Intelligence and Health/Medical fields, and demonstrate the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

Develop portfolio strategy in collaboration with external editorial teams and society partners, ensuring alignment with organizational strategies.
Ensure a sufficient flow of relevant, high-quality manuscripts by working with Editors, Authors, Editorial boards, Reviewers, and the academic community.
Negotiate and manage contractual relationships with journal editors and learned societies.
Continuously and proactively maintain the existing portfolio, reflecting marketplace developments.
Meet portfolio objectives related to content growth, market share, editorial speeds, and author/editor satisfaction.
Manage the editorial fees budget and provide input to pricing processes.
Establish, manage, and maintain excellent external stakeholder contacts (editors, authors, societies, universities, industry) to understand needs and market developments.
Establish, manage, and maintain excellent internal stakeholder contacts (editorial, production, publishing, marketing, technology) to coordinate activities.
Identify market needs and business opportunities.
Develop and acquire new products and services, including society journals.

Requirements

University degree with a minimum of five years of journal publishing experience or equivalent relevant industry experience.
Fluent in English (verbal and written communication).
Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
Proactive, positive, and creative, with a solution/results-oriented approach.
Strong networking, negotiation, and collaboration skills.
Commercial awareness and business acumen.
Experience in data gathering, interpretation, and presentation.
Understanding of the scientific research ecosystem, particularly in health and medical contexts, and its needs.
Able and willing to travel internationally.
