About the Role

Amentum is seeking a facilities HVAC technician to join our team in Melville, NY. This position is Monday - Friday 7-330, with hours potentially varying based on business demands. The role involves advanced expertise in responding to work orders, troubleshooting, and performing preventive maintenance on facility HVAC and mechanical equipment in industrial, large commercial, or logistics distribution environments, including clean rooms.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced expertise in performing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on a wide variety of industrial or commercial facility HVAC equipment.
  • Ensure optimal and continuous operation of mechanical systems through routine inspections, maintenance, and monitoring of metering equipment.
  • Identify and correct safety-related issues and perform independent equipment evaluations to identify potential failures.
  • Operate, maintain, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair ventilation equipment, pumps, fans, chillers, rooftop AHUs, split systems, compressors, refrigeration, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Utilize the building automation system to track building conditions and equipment operation.
  • Provide expertise in the efficient operation of all HVAC systems.
  • Recharge refrigerant levels, check for leaks, and ensure proper functioning of the refrigerant cycle in air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
  • Utilize strong mechanical and electrical skills to complete assignments.
  • Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance on HVAC control and operating systems using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Respond to and service customer work orders, providing feedback and ensuring compliance with codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Follow proper safety guidelines, including job hazard analysis, lockout/tagout, and wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Operate various measuring, diagnostic, and testing instruments to provide energy efficiency solutions.
  • Comply with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Maintain a strict schedule to ensure success in the assignment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management or Lead.

  • Work closely with customers during site emergencies.
  • Accurately document electronic and paper cataloging systems.
  • Strive for quick complaint resolution and avoid escalation of issues through operational knowledge.
  • Work overtime when required.
  • Work holidays and weekends as may be required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
  • Five years of experience as an HVAC/R maintenance technician in industrial and/or commercial environments or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work in an aerial lift or scissor lift at heights up to 30 feet or higher.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including listening to customer needs, articulating solutions, and providing value.
  • Ability to pass a medical evaluation for respirator use and complete a fit test for several types of respirators.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
  • Ability to obtain a security access badge at the client’s location.
  • Ability to read and understand information from various documents and computer screens.
  • Demonstrated fluency in computer use, including the full Microsoft product line.
  • Ability to obtain an appropriate driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
  • This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization.
  • Regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Regularly climb ladders, steps, and scaffolding.
  • Perform repetitive motions: bend, stoop, squat, kneel, stretch, reach, wrist movement.
  • Walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.
  • Work at an accelerated pace in emergency conditions.
  • Ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.
  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and other PPE as needed.
  • Cope with job and work environment demands (stressors).
  • Ability to use a variety of office equipment and operate a computer keyboard.
  • Ability to attend meetings and potentially travel to other Amentum, customer, and/or vendor locations.
  • Ability to communicate with others on the telephone and in one-on-one or group discussions, meetings, and presentations.
  • Interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.
  • Move light to medium weight materials into desks, filing cabinets, and other storage locations.
