About the Role

The Acute Patient Access Services Representative supports the MD Anderson Cancer Center by obtaining and verifying patient demographic and insurance information, generating estimates, collecting payments, and ensuring a positive patient experience in a high-volume, fast-paced hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and verify patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Verify patient eligibility and benefits.
  • Generate patient estimates based on benefits and services provided.
  • Enter data into ms4.
  • Obtain signatures on consent forms.
  • Collect money due from patients.
  • Register patients.
  • Provide superior customer service.
  • Accurately identify and obtain patient insurance authorizations.
  • Verify patient eligibility and benefits.
  • Generate patient estimates for services rendered.
  • Perform financial counseling.
  • Collect patient liability.
  • Resolve customer issues.
  • Accurately input patient demographics into EHR.
  • Document accounts thoroughly to maximize reimbursement and minimize denials.
  • Understand insurance guidelines for all services.
  • Read and understand insurance benefits.
  • Create a positive patient experience through interactions and communication.
  • Understand payer authorization guidelines.
  • Submit timely notifications according to insurance guidelines.
  • Meet all registration-related key performance indicators.
  • Obtain federal/state compliance information, consents, and documentation.
  • Complete hospital-based compliance forms.
  • Use multiple computer applications proficiently.
  • Discuss financial liability with patients and families.
  • Assist patients in applying for Banner Line of Credit.
  • Set up payment plans.
  • Assist patients with Banner Financial Assistance policy/application.
  • Provide a variety of patient services and financial services tasks.
  • Transport patients (may be assigned).
  • Train new hire employees (may be assigned).
  • Recap daily deposits (may be assigned).
  • Post daily deposits (may be assigned).
  • Conduct other work assignments of the Patient Access Services team.
  • Work independently under regular supervision.
  • Follow structured work routines.
  • Adapt to a high-volume, fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Utilize critical thinking and independent decision-making.
  • Prioritize work to ensure timeliness of patient care.

Requirements

  • Must have at least 2 years of customer service experience.
  • High school diploma/GED is required.
  • Customer service skills or knowledge of patient financial services, financial, collecting services or insurance industry experience processes normally acquired over one or more years of work experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge in the use of common office software, word processing, spreadsheet, database software.
  • Typing ability is required.
  • Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital or the Whole Health Clinic must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.
  • Employees working at Banner MD Anderson on the Banner University Medical Center Phoenix campus must possess a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.
