About the Role

The Maintainer provides the highest standards of museum maintenance, safety, and cleanliness for visitors, programs, and staff. Primary responsibilities include daily cleaning and maintenance of facilities and grounds, assisting with the supervision of outside contractors, and coordinating work with the Chief Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily cleaning and maintenance using various equipment and methods, including vacuuming, floor scrubbing, dusting, and snow blowing.
  • Clean and restock all restrooms daily.
  • Clean all public, staff, and back-of-house spaces daily, including floors, walls, carpets, ceilings, furniture, glass, mirrors, cabinets, tables, light fixtures, doors, door hardware, chairs, and elevators.
  • Perform graffiti removal.
  • Clean glass facades and sidewalks daily.
  • Perform detailed cleaning of museum staff offices and cubicles.
  • Remove trash and recycling from all spaces daily.
  • Perform skylight cleaning and maintenance as needed.
  • Regularly inspect and clean exterior roof storm drains and gutters.
  • Replace light bulbs as needed.
  • Perform painting and paint touch-ups as needed.
  • Perform light repairs on door hardware, electrical, and plumbing.
  • Facilitate inspections or maintenance visits from NYC agencies or outside vendors.
  • Assist with special event setup and breakdown.
  • Oversee and assist outside vendors for special events.
  • Perform snow removal.
  • Assist with package receiving and delivery.
  • Assist the Facilities Director, Chief Engineer, or Chief Maintainer with special assignments.
  • Maintain flexible scheduling to accommodate special events and staff coverage.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years custodial or maintainer experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings.
  • Hands-on approach and strong technical aptitude.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
