About the Role

This year-round school program is seeking a full-time Intervention Specialist for its Brooklyn, NY campus. The role supports students' behavioral, emotional, and academic needs within a specialized learning environment. The ideal candidate is proactive, compassionate, and collaborative, dedicated to student success.

Responsibilities

  • Observe, manage, evaluate, and document student behavioral issues and crisis interventions, including the effectiveness of strategies and techniques.
  • Assess and maintain a functional environment for intervention that preserves student dignity and ensures safety.
  • Provide the highest level of Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security throughout all intervention phases.
  • Observe and interact with students in academic and classroom settings to build rapport and understand deficits and behaviors.
  • Meet with classroom staff and service providers to discuss proactive strategies for managing and preventing outbursts.
  • Observe staff interactions with students and debrief on rapport building, behavior management, and crisis prevention.
  • Utilize intervention techniques like Collaborative & Proactive Solutions and Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention to deescalate students posing a danger.
  • Ensure all students receive the highest level of Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security.
  • Collect and review completed Intervention Worksheets daily.
  • Attend team meetings as requested.

Requirements

  • Must possess excellent writing and organizational skills.
  • Previous experience with crisis intervention with school-age students is required.
  • Requires strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with all management levels.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Detailed oriented individual.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Effectively manage student crisis with dignity and respect.
  • Anticipate and meet deadlines, complete assignments with consistent accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
