About the Role
Flat Roofer is a hands-on field role responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining low slope roofing and waterproofing systems on commercial and industrial buildings. You will work from drawings and specs to install membrane, insulation, and flashing correctly and safely. You'll work alongside a crew and report to a site supervisor or foreman, coordinating material handling, equipment setup, and daily progress. Good work means clean, watertight installs, tidy job sites, and a crew that trusts your judgment when conditions on the roof change. You will travel to job sites across the GTA and surrounding region as projects require.
Responsibilities
- Install membrane, insulation, flashing, and related components on flat and low slope roofs
- Prepare roof surfaces and substrates ahead of installation
- Apply torch on, TPO, EPDM, or modified bitumen systems according to manufacturer specifications
- Read and follow drawings, specifications, and installation details on each project
- Set up and operate roofing equipment including torches, kettles, and hoisting equipment safely
- Coordinate material handling and staging on site with the crew and foreman
- Identify and flag deficiencies, leaks, or substrate issues before they become bigger problems
- Follow all site specific safety plans and wear required personal protective equipment at all times
- Keep the job site clean and organized throughout the workday
- Travel to job sites across the GTA and surrounding region as assigned
Requirements
- 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience installing flat and low slope roofing systems
- Working knowledge of TPO, EPDM, modified bitumen, torch on, and built-up roofing systems
- Familiarity with waterproofing and building envelope principles
- Working at Heights certification and valid WHMIS training, or willingness to obtain before start
- Ability to read basic drawings and specs and follow installation details accurately
- You take pride in a clean, watertight install and do not cut corners to save time
- You are comfortable working at heights and in changing weather conditions
- You communicate clearly with your crew and foreman about progress and problems on site
- You show up reliably and are ready to work as part of a team from day one
- You stay alert to safety on site and look out for the people working alongside you
