About the Role

Performs a variety of technical radiographic procedures, applies prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis, and handles clerical duties, EKG, and phlebotomy functions. This role requires adapting care to the age-specific needs of pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients, fostering patient and family-centered care in alignment with organizational values.

Responsibilities

• Follows Urgent Care Centers workflow protocols to maximize quality and efficiency.
• Works effectively and respectfully at highest capabilities and training.
• Protects and preserves patient’s right to privacy and confidentiality.
• Meets, greets, answers questions, and provides understandable explanations of radiologic examinations, EKGs, and phlebotomy tests to patients.
• Provides for safety and comfort of all patients.
• Answers phones and performs registration and checkout duties.
• Rooms patients, ensures exam room is cleaned between patients and set-up appropriately.
• Schedules patients for radiologic examinations, ensuring efficient patient flow.
• Places orders and tracks exams with accuracy, consistency, and promptness.
• Performs required patient identification procedure on all patients.
• Performs radiographic exams demonstrating sound understanding of equipment, anatomical positioning, physiology, and technical factors.
• Transfers images to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) for physician review.
• Scans documents into applicable systems for archiving and retrieval.
• Follows protocols for appropriate usage of software (Lifechart, PACS, etc.) and understands downtime processes.
• Performs required quality control procedures and ensures equipment is performing as expected.
• Reports unit issues to Manager Medical Imaging.
• Places EKG leads on patients, performs EKG tracings.
• Ensures EKG tracings are properly labeled and made part of the patient’s medical record.
• Maintains orderliness, cleanliness, and adequate supplies for assigned area.
• Provides coverage for the department as required, including weekends and holidays.
• Demonstrates flexibility with shifts and locations.
• Participates in the training and instruction of new Urgent Care Radiology Techs.
• Maintains quality assurance, safety regulations, environmental, and infection control.
• Manages time effectively, filling slow periods with activities to prepare for future needs.
• Minimizes non-productive time.
• Attire and personal appearance must conform to departmental guidelines and standards.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Completion of formal training in an AMA-approved accredited school of radiologic technology or equivalent.
• Maintains a current license to work in the State of Rhode Island.
• Must hold current ARRT certification.
• Basic life support certification required.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout Brown University Health, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns.
