About the Role

As a Software Engineer 2 at Humana, a Fortune 100 healthcare technology leader, you will play a key role in building modern, scalable solutions that improve health outcomes and consumer experiences. Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and deliver high-quality software solutions for healthcare and wellness experiences.
  • Build and maintain mission-critical APIs for Humana's Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) ecosystem.
  • Develop and optimize high-performance backend services focusing on reliability, security, and maintainability.
  • Work across the full development lifecycle, including coding, testing, debugging, optimizing, and deploying systems.
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools to enhance productivity, coding, documentation, testing, and overall engineering effectiveness.
  • Utilize enterprise-approved AI solutions like GitHub Copilot and Claude Code for code generation, review, troubleshooting, and refactoring.
  • Improve engineering quality through robust testing strategies, tooling, automation, and AI-assisted development practices.
  • Investigate and resolve complex technical issues, identifying root causes and implementing long-term fixes.
  • Collaborate within a cross-functional agile team, partnering with product, architecture, and QA.
  • Make independent decisions and solve ambiguous problems with minimal guidance.
  • Modernize legacy components, improve system resilience and performance, and enhance backend observability.
  • Contribute to an engineering culture valuing innovation, continuous learning, and consumer journey improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in software development, systems analysis, or application programming.
  • Strong coding skills and familiarity with modern development practices (CI/CD, cloud platforms, automated testing, agile methodologies).
  • Experience using modern developer productivity tools, including AI-assisted coding, documentation, and testing solutions.
  • Ability to effectively leverage AI-generated recommendations while exercising sound engineering judgment, code ownership, and quality standards.
  • A passion for building elegant, reliable, user-centric software.
  • A growth mindset and a desire to contribute to a mission-driven organization focused on improving healthcare.
  • Self-provided internet service with at least 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speed.
  • Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.
