About the Role

We are seeking an experienced leader to establish our new "New Assets" division and take overall project management responsibility for the construction of the PULS pumped-storage power plant, a significant infrastructure and energy project for the coming years, along with other growth projects. This key role combines strategic business development with the leadership of a complex, large-scale project, laying the foundation for new flexible generation capacities in Germany's future energy system.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and develop the "New Assets" division for the structured investigation, evaluation, and implementation of growth and optimization potentials within the Hydro Germany Business Unit.
  • Build the PULS project organization (Core Team) for the TG1 phase (planning phase) in alignment with the Hydro Germany Management Team, including project governance aligned with Vattenfall processes.
  • Coordinate with the line organization for resource planning and provision not permanently or fully assigned to the project (matrix organization).
  • Build and lead the project team and sub-projects.
  • Manage aspects related to the 10-year network development plan (TYNDP), project of common interest (PCI), and funding.
  • Oversee technical areas including infrastructure, rail, grid connection, compensation and replacement measures, construction technology, electrical and control engineering, mechanical engineering, hydrology, and basin ecology.
  • Manage communication, project management (scope, cost, time, resources, quality), permitting and stakeholder management, and risk management.
  • Handle property, tax, and fixed asset accounting.
  • Develop a technical/technological guideline based on operational experience from the line organization.
  • Tender and coordinate external engineering and planning services.
  • Manage resources, timelines, budget, and FTE planning.
  • Report directly to and coordinate with the management of the Hydro Germany Business Unit.
  • Conduct variant studies and evaluate alternatives for the overall project.

Requirements

  • Completed university degree (Engineering, Natural Sciences, or related fields preferred, M.Sc. or Ph.D.) with at least 10 years of relevant professional experience in a technical field.
  • Several years of professional experience as a responsible project manager in the construction of generation facilities, large plants, or comparable major projects.
  • Successfully completed project management certification (e.g., IPMA or PMP) is desirable.
  • Ability to anticipate project developments and proactively avoid problems and conflicts.
  • Proven ability to handle complex topics, problems, and challenges, and to translate extensive technical and/or project-related issues into efficient and comprehensible solutions.
  • Several years of experience in awarding engineering and construction services, with knowledge of contract and construction law, as well as technical rules and legal provisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize complex interrelationships and implement them with initiative and persuasiveness.
  • Experience with strategic and business-relevant issues.
  • Strong leadership skills in managing interdisciplinary project teams across locations, with a good sense for prioritization and a strong awareness of quality, costs, and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken) and fluent German.
  • Experience in stakeholder management.
  • A constructive, optimistic, and solution-oriented mindset with a can-do attitude towards challenges.
  • Highly motivated, strong communication and assertiveness skills, enthusiasm for teamwork.
