Responsibilities

  • Assists medical providers to provide maximum quality patient care while demonstrating excellent customer service, teamwork, and flexibility.
  • Maintains an efficient and effective patient flow within medical units.
  • Ensures a safe environment and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., OSHA, NYSDOH) within exam areas.
  • Sets up exam rooms and stocks supplies.
  • Assists with the orientation of new employees.
  • Participates in the patient rooming process and monitors provider schedules.
  • Prepares patients and exam rooms for medical visits.
  • Cleans and disinfects equipment and maintains the soiled holding room.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in workflow in response to changes in patient and unit workload.
  • Maintains an efficient patient flow by following the established daily schedule.
  • Reviews EHR to determine if health screenings are current.
  • Completes and maintains quality controls logs.
  • Maintains required certifications.
  • Performs chart intake preparation.
  • Accurately collects and records patient data for intake in the EHR.
  • Performs and records EKG results in the EHR.
  • Performs and records basic hearing and vision tests in the EHR.
  • Performs and records all required screenings in the EHR.
  • Collects, performs, and transcribes point-of-care results of laboratory specimens (e.g., phlebotomy, if applicable).
  • Records accurate patient telephone and verbal communication in the EHR.
  • Completes charting, referrals, and other forms for provider review.
  • Demonstrates technical skills in providing medical assistance to patients.
  • Follows established policies and procedures in providing medical assistance.
  • Provides medical assistance considering age-related requirements.
  • Reinforces patient and family teaching.
  • Demonstrates initiative and flexibility with assignments.
  • Assists with procedures as needed.
  • Recognizes high-risk situations or changes in patient conditions and reports them to the provider immediately.
  • Demonstrates excellence in customer service.
  • Understands and communicates HIPAA compliance, corporate compliance, and client confidentiality.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., JCAHO, OASAS, NYSHD).
  • Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school in medical assisting OR three (3) years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a physician/hospital setting.
  • Certified in BLS/CPR.
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • One to two years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a physician office setting (preferred).
  • Basic computer keyboard knowledge (preferred).
  • Flexibility to adjust to schedule changes (preferred).
  • Knowledge of managed care requirements (preferred).
