About the Role

Provide counseling, case management, and support services to students and families as part of an interdisciplinary team. Ensure services align with IEPs to promote social-emotional well-being, behavioral growth, and academic engagement. This full-time, 10-month position includes a 6-week summer program and requires flexibility for meetings, family communication, and professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the clinical components of students’ IEPs in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Ensure active supervision of assigned student(s) to promote safety, engagement, and compliance with behavior and education plans.
  • Provide individual and group counseling, family engagement, and case management services tailored to students’ social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
  • Communicate effectively with school staff, caregivers, outside providers, and Committees on Special Education.
  • Support student intake, admissions, and transitions between programs or placements.
  • Complete and maintain accurate documentation—including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries—in compliance with agency, state, and professional standards.
  • Maintain confidential student records in accordance with FERPA, HIPAA, and agency policies.
  • Lead discharge and aftercare planning in partnership with families, school districts, and the Transitional Services Specialist.
  • Represent the program in agency and community meetings and contribute to outreach and advocacy efforts.
  • Participate in de-escalation, crisis intervention, and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) procedures to support student safety.
  • Engage in professional development to maintain licensure and stay current with best practices in school-based mental health.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to build rapport and maintain therapeutic relationships with students and families.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and restorative practices.
  • Skill in completing psychosocial assessments, treatment plans, and clinical documentation.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in interdisciplinary educational teams.
  • Capacity to manage multiple responsibilities and respond to crises calmly and appropriately.
  • Ability to utilize physical restraints in accordance with safety protocols youth after successful completion of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training.
  • Valid New York State driver’s license and adequate auto insurance required.
