About the Role

Zurich Canada is seeking a Complex Claims Specialist to manage simple or multi-party, high-exposure, and high-complexity claims within established authority limits, ensuring efficient and effective resolution while providing client-centric service. You will play a key role in investigating, evaluating, and settling complex claims, offering technical support, and contributing to process improvements. This role also involves acting as a subject matter expert, contributing to the development and mentoring of other claims professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Manage personal and commercial claims, involving one or more parties, of moderate to high complexity, within delegated authority limits, providing client-centric service.
  • Accurately document and maintain claim files in accordance with Zurich's best practices and policies.
  • Investigate claims by gathering facts, applying relevant laws and principles of negligence, and determining liability and coverage.
  • Develop and implement claim handling strategies, including evaluation, action plans, timely escalation, reserving, and damage assessment to achieve effective resolution.
  • Negotiate settlements within authority limits using appropriate strategies, tools, and resources.
  • Ensure quality and compliance with internal guidelines, policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support marketing and client relationship management activities as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with claims policies, procedures, systems, and processes.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and recommendations for the claims function.
  • Drive improvements to systems and processes to increase efficiency and quality of customer service.
  • Provide technical support and act as a subject matter expert for complex files, contributing to precedent setting and improved outcomes.
  • Develop and manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment on claims issues.
  • Serve as a technical resource for the team and internal clients, maintaining up-to-date expertise to support claims operational management.
  • Mentor, coach, and support the development of team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 6 years of experience in liability claims OR Juris Doctor (JD) degree and at least 3 years of experience in liability claims.
  • Obtain and maintain an AMF adjuster license for Quebec (commercial lines).
  • Proficiency in spoken and written French.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English to facilitate communication with internal and external stakeholders outside of Quebec.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Office 365 suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a complex workload and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience working within a collaborative team and with different work groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and provide technical support to other claims professionals.
