About the Role

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL)/Senior Medical Science Liaison (Sr MSL) is a field-based representative of the Medical Affairs Organization supporting and representing Shionogi Inc. and its products with key opinion leaders (KOLs), clinicians, institutions, and professional organizations. This role involves building relationships and managing KOLs for scientific exchange, addressing healthcare professional needs through scientific discussions, and serving as a resource to company management on therapeutic area dynamics and KOL feedback. The MSL/Sr. MSL ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes, manages, and maintains successful relationships with relevant healthcare entities including KOLs, HCPs, academic institutions, payors, and patient organizations.
  • Designs and executes regional plans aligned with medical strategy and KOL priorities.
  • Identifies relevant HCPs based on medical strategy and patient needs.
  • Responds to and documents unsolicited medical and scientific requests for information.
  • Liaises with investigators on unsolicited requests for investigator-initiated research submissions.
  • Delivers, and may develop/design, fair-balanced clinical and scientific presentations for HCPs, payors, and patient organizations.
  • Identifies and trains speakers for advisory boards, symposia, and educational programs.
  • Attends national and regional medical/scientific meetings and symposia as a company representative.
  • Gathers information from scientific sessions and poster presentations, summarizes findings, and cultivates professional relationships.
  • Evaluates competitor research and information relevant to company therapeutic areas and product priorities.
  • Stays current on therapeutic advances and analyzes relevant intelligence findings.
  • Collaborates effectively across multi-disciplinary internal groups (Clinical, Regulatory, Commercial, Legal, Compliance).
  • Provides disease state, clinical, and scientific training as requested across functional teams.
  • Provides input to management on therapeutic and research advances, business development opportunities/risks, and KOL feedback.
  • Maintains a thorough awareness of medical/clinical, regulatory, compliance, and quality issues.
  • Completes accurate and timely submission of administrative reports, projects, expense reports, and other required documentation.
  • Analyzes operational data to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develops and tracks key performance indicators (KPIs) and associated metrics.
  • Designs and ensures delivery of training programs to build operational excellence capabilities.
  • Works closely with cross-functional teams to drive alignment and achieve operational goals.
  • Leads change management efforts for process improvements and operational initiatives.
  • Assesses industry best practices, internal needs, opportunities, and challenges to enhance medical impact and operational efficiencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Doctoral level degree in a life sciences program with strong scientific knowledge highly preferred.
  • Post grad in virology, infectious disease, epidemiology or related fields considered.
  • Previous MSL experience in the pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical industry required.
  • Previous respiratory infectious disease experience preferred.
  • Experience in COVID-19 preferred.
  • 5+ years MSL experience may be considered for a Senior MSL opportunity.
  • Experience in the outpatient medical community preferred.
  • Experience with pre- and post-launch product approval activities preferred.
  • Demonstrates clinical, scientific, and technical knowledge within infectious diseases or respiratory diseases preferred but not required.
  • Understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and business strategies.
  • Knowledgeable with current regulatory guidelines to ensure corporate compliance.
  • Behaves in an ethical and professional manner, adhering to company guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to travel up to 75% of time by automobile, train, or air.
  • Must live within the boundaries of the assigned geographic territory.
  • Must live within a commutable distance to a large airport.
  • Ability to drive in a safe manner to required meetings and appointments.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a complete background check.
  • Must have valid licenses and credentialing required to conduct business in assigned territory.
