About the Role
The Indigenous Pathways program is a unique, paid, full-time, 9-month journey designed to celebrate and support First Nations, Inuit, and Metis individuals in growing their skills and launching careers in media at CBC. Participants will work within an all-Indigenous cohort, receiving comprehensive training, dedicated career support, and hands-on experience. No prior journalism or media education is required, as the focus is on potential and voice. The program runs from October 2026 to June 2027.
Responsibilities
- Partner with Producers to build written and video stories that connect with and inspire the audience.
- Showcase perspective and judgment in a safe space for trying new things and learning.
- Spark new ideas for articles and social media, ensuring stories are told with care and accuracy.
- Build bridges with external partners and help stories reach further through impactful social media.
- Learn the art of packaging content for the world to see, while assisting in editing and directing projects.
Requirements
- Identify as First Nations, Inuit, or Métis and feel a strong connection to your community, with a deep desire to help share its stories.
- Be a sports enthusiast who is curious about the art of storytelling—whether through writing, research, or technical production.
- Value teamwork, lead with integrity, and approach challenges with a positive, "can-do" attitude and creative solutions.
- Be open to new perspectives and ready to dive in, picking up new technical and interpersonal skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
- A mandatory Criminal record check.
- Other background checks may be conducted based on the operational requirements of the position.
- Adhere to the CBC/Radio-Canada Code of Conduct.
- Inform about any situation that constitutes or could appear to constitute a conflict of interest.
Skills
- Basic Adobe Premiere Pro editing skills
- Previous training or courses in radio or TV production
- Bilingual (English/French)
