About the Role
Assist the Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) by completing assigned casework and outreach duties to support constituents and enhance the MPP's presence.
Responsibilities
- Organize events, hearings, meetings, and press conferences.
- Respond to constituent questions and concerns.
- Prepare, gather, maintain, and compile research material for the Member.
- Respond to requests for research or information from constituents.
- Monitor local media to ensure a strong media presence for the Member.
- Prepare weekly columns, draft op-eds, standard media releases, and arrange interviews.
- Develop and manage social media presence to increase the MPP's visibility.
- Assist with outreach and engagement to promote awareness of the MPP in the riding.
- Stay informed on assigned policy areas and liaise with interest groups.
- Handle constituent inquiries, solve problems, and advocate on their behalf (casework).
- Contact and respond to constituents via telephone, writing, and in person.
- Contact senior government personnel, officials from outside organizations, and local government.
- Prepare all documentation related to casework.
- Travel throughout the Riding to perform outreach, casework, and event planning.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Member.
Requirements
- Knowledge of the NDP and the Canadian labour movement, Canadian government, Ontario government, and public affairs.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Equity and Diversity frameworks and considerations.
- Ability to write articles and reports, meet deadlines, produce accurate work, and maintain organized records.
- Ability to advocate effectively on behalf of the Member’s constituents.
- Familiarity with the members’ constituency and portfolio areas and key stakeholder groups in the riding is essential.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is essential.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking French, Bengali, Urdu, Hindi, Tagalog, Mandarin, or Spanish is required.
- Experience in NDP organizations and community organizing is an asset.
- Knowledge and existing rapport with local riding and community members is preferred.
Skills
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
- Knowledge of social media skills and best practices (Twitter, Facebook, Mailchimp, etc.).
- Additional language skills are an asset.
