About the Role

This fall, YWCA NENY is offering an internship opportunity for aspiring social work professionals passionate about making a difference. Interns will gain hands-on experience in facilitating groups, participating in community events, and providing support to individuals in various settings, applying academic knowledge in real-world scenarios.

Responsibilities

  • Co-facilitate group sessions in diverse settings such as shelters, correctional facilities, and community-based organizations.
  • Adapt facilitation techniques to meet the needs of different groups and individuals.
  • Assist in organizing and participating in community events, including Domestic Violence (DV) awareness month activities and holiday assistance programs.
  • Represent the organization at tabling events, providing information and resources to community members.
  • Engage in the STRIVE program, attending regular sessions and providing support to participants.
  • Shadow experienced professionals to gain insight into client support activities, if appropriate.
  • Attend trainings on topics such as trafficking awareness and DV education.
  • Apply knowledge gained through trainings to enhance support provided to clients and community members.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in social work.
  • Strong interest in working with diverse populations and addressing social issues such as domestic violence and human trafficking.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness of social justice issues.
  • Completion of all mandated role-related employment eligibility forms and checks.
  • This internship is open to only SUNY Albany students that are in the social work undergraduate program and or the SUNY MSW 1st year placements.
