About the Role

The candidate will perform journey-level quality work, responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of all college-owned electrical systems and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Meets the electrical needs of the campus community by performing work requests, emergencies, and special set-ups.
  • Works with various departments to achieve common goals.
  • Performs ballast/driver, switch/receptacle, and breaker/feeder replacements.
  • Maintains functionality of equipment and systems, including Emergency Lighting, Switchgear, Variable Frequency Drives, Motor Control Centers, Transformers, and Battery back-up systems.
  • Conducts monthly preventive maintenance to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Plans and lays out work by reading blueprints.
  • Collaborates with team members on finding the best approach.
  • Completes in-house team projects such as lighting retrofits, additional circuitry, EV Charger installations, and feeder upgrades.
  • Identifies and solves problems to maintain a 24/7 power generating facility.
  • Reads and interprets one-line diagrams.
  • Diagnoses motor and motor control failures.
  • Develops skills through hands-on training.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, two-year technical trade school, or apprenticeship program, and/or a combination of relevant education, training, certifications, and/or work experience.
  • Five years as a Journeyman Electrician.
  • Experience in residential, commercial, and industrial applications.
  • Valid Commercial Electrician’s License (Preferred in Schenectady, Albany, or Troy).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer skills including Word, Excel, and Adobe.
  • Knowledge of medium voltage three phase systems (13.2KV), WYE/DELTA and low voltage systems (24, 120, 208, 277, and 480v).
  • Available for round-the-clock emergency response both on and off campus.
  • Strong understanding and application of the National Electrical Code, NFPA, and OSHA standards on electrical and work safety procedures.
  • Finalists for hire will undergo a background check that includes education, employment, and criminal convictions.
