About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist to join the Adult Acute Inpatient team at Royal Brompton Hospital on a locum basis. This role involves managing complex adult caseloads within an acute hospital setting, working with patients presenting with respiratory, voice, airway, and swallowing disorders as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
- Manage a specialist adult acute inpatient caseload.
- Carry out laryngoscopy assessments and interventions.
- Assess and manage patients with cleft lip and palate (CLP).
- Undertake outpatient assessments for asthma and upper airway disorders.
- Deliver specialist voice therapy.
- Assess and manage patients with dysphagia, including Videofluoroscopic Swallow Studies (VFSS) and Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES).
- Produce Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile (MBSImP) reports where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality patient care.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical documentation in line with HCPC and departmental standards.
Requirements
- A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).
- HCPC registration.
- Significant post-graduate experience working within adult acute inpatient services.
- Experience undertaking laryngoscopy, dysphagia assessment, VFSS, FEES, voice therapy, and upper airway assessments.
- MBSImP reporting competence is highly desirable.
- Dysphagia competencies at Level 2b or equivalent are desirable.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and clinical reasoning skills.
