About the Role
This role is responsible for the overall performance and asset quality of a portfolio or product set, including credit approval authority. The position focuses on credit, market, and reputational risk, ensuring adherence to internal policies and regulatory reporting requirements while providing expertise on complex transactions.
Responsibilities
- Set and oversee risk parameters and guardrails for credit risk to ensure adherence to risk appetite.
- Support or oversee the credit approval process, including underwriting, structuring, and monitoring tasks.
- Develop and inspect credit risk reporting and monitor key indicators for changes in credit quality.
- Ensure first-line credit officers perform due diligence consistent with the bank's risk appetite.
- Monitor for adherence to industry risk governance and identify potential operational, reputational, and market risks.
- Coordinate with business counterparts to identify and resolve portfolio issues early.
- Manage and translate action plans across varying audiences.
- Provide credit policy and portfolio management guidance to business partners for the West Region CDB portfolio.
- Oversee portfolio reviews, forecast regional asset quality, and study industry practices.
- Collaborate with Credit Officers and Underwriters from deal screening through closing.
- Resolve problem loans and equity investments.
- Exercise joint credit approval authority on complex debt and equity transactions.
- Mentor junior associates and contribute to policy updates for Community Development Banking products.
- Conduct occasional travel for client contact or project and market inspections.
Requirements
- 10+ years of related experience within a financial institution or 5+ years of direct experience with federal tax credit investments.
- Superior communication and credit skills.
- Knowledge of Community Development Banking team functions at Bank of America.
- Credit analysis and underwriting experience for multifamily housing.
- Proficiency in financial accounting principles, loan structuring, and interest rate protection products.
- Technical knowledge of federal and state tax credit equity investments, specifically Low Income Housing Tax Credits and Historic Tax Credits.
- Experience in a risk management role.
