About the Role

The Senior Climate Fellow will support IRAP’s climate research, network, visibility, and credibility on a part-time, non-residential basis from August to December 2026. This role is ideal for a senior-level individual with a strong publication record and recognized thought leadership in climate migration. The Fellow will represent IRAP at key events and contribute to internal and external discussions on IRAP's climate work, producing written work products.

Responsibilities

Research and publish on IRAP’s behalf, with deliverables to include pragmatic policy recommendations for countries expanding access to lawful pathways or serving climate migration.
Prepare submissions for UN or adjacent bodies regarding climate-related displacement preparedness and migration solutions.
Implement recommendations for U.S. policymakers on international climate migration beyond single pathways or marker bills.
Analyze how to shift political costs associated with supporting practical climate migration solutions.
Analyze discrete demographics, countries, and regions amenable to different climate mobility policies, discussing feasibility and providing uptake strategies.
Attend, convene, or co-convene climate-related engagements on IRAP’s behalf, such as NYC Climate Week and COP 31, to share connections, foster collaboration, and speak on panels.
Organize roundtable discussions among immigration advocates on climate migration advocacy, considering the current challenges to immigrant rights.
Facilitate discussion sessions on the shortcomings of lawful pathways and challenges in adapting them for climate-vulnerable populations.
Organize events focused on enhancing direct conversation between frontline climate-affected communities and legal advocates.
Contribute to IRAP’s internal thinking related to future climate advocacy, including analysis of potential political uptake for climate migration policies globally.
Provide recommendations for next steps on climate advocacy considering various political scenarios in the United States and Europe.
