About the Role
The Associate Director of Technology & Engineering manages the daily operations of broadcast, studio, and IT systems while supervising support staff. This role ensures that technology infrastructure reliably supports BRIC TV, community media, live productions, and organization-wide needs.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the Technology & Engineering team by setting objectives, conducting evaluations, and providing coaching.
- Manage team scheduling, workload, training, and daily priorities.
- Recruit, onboard, and supervise technical staff, Master Control personnel, and freelance technicians.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for complex live production, broadcast engineering, and enterprise systems issues.
- Oversee daily operations of television production studios, control rooms, editing suites, and Master Control.
- Manage program scheduling, playback automation, and HD production workflows.
- Maintain and troubleshoot broadcast and digital transmission systems for cable, streaming, and social media.
- Coordinate technical activities with cable, broadband, and broadcast engineering partners.
- Ensure production equipment and infrastructure are maintained and aligned with industry standards.
- Administer, secure, and optimize enterprise platforms including Salesforce and Momentus.
- Establish user access controls, data governance practices, and system security standards.
- Monitor system performance, backups, integrations, and business continuity.
- Design workflows and automate processes to improve operational efficiency.
- Manage software versioning, security patches, system upgrades, and vendor roadmaps.
- Develop technology governance standards and policies.
- Maintain and publish the official list of approved AI software.
- Evaluate new AI tools for security, privacy, and compliance.
- Partner with department directors to develop AI use guidelines and technology standards.
- Monitor emerging technologies to recommend strategic improvements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments to support organizational technology and events.
- Develop budget recommendations and monitor expenditures.
- Track and report on technology system performance and operational metrics.
- Develop and improve technology documentation, standard operating procedures, and disaster recovery plans.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years in a technical leadership role at a broadcast, cablecast, or media production facility.
- Experience with staff management.
- Strong understanding of network infrastructure, broadcast and digital transmission systems, and production workflows.
- Experience with multi-channel content scheduling, playback automation, and HD production.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, vendor relationships, and competing priorities.
- Commitment to operationalizing equity within the technology function.
