About the Role
We're looking for a Part-Time Control Room Technician to join the team at Global News Toronto. You will play a key role in the technical execution of live and recorded broadcasts, ensuring the seamless delivery of high-quality news and programming. You will support a fast-paced control room environment by operating, monitoring, and maintaining advanced broadcast and studio systems.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the operation of MOSART, the automated control room system.
- Operate Maestro and ORAD virtual set control systems.
- Operate Telemetrics robotic cameras in both virtual and live studio environments.
- Perform technical setup and conduct routine checks of robotic cameras, audio boards, lighting, teleprompters, closed captioning, and other studio/control room equipment.
- Conduct quality control checks on all programming airing from servers.
- Coordinate remote live events.
- Work a variety of shifts, including evenings, early mornings, and weekends.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Diploma or degree in Broadcast Technology, Journalism, Radio & TV Production, or related field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a network control room or similar environment.
- Familiarity with newsroom and broadcast systems such as Mosart, ENPS, Open Media, Grass Valley, XPression, and ORAD.
- Strong technical knowledge of switchers, audio and lighting boards, robotic cameras, and graphics systems.
- A proactive, self-starter mindset with a focus on improving workflows and production quality.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, high-tech setting.
- Excellent multitasking skills and adaptability in an evolving media landscape.
- A positive, can-do attitude.
