The Staff or Principal DevOps Engineer will design and build the deployment vehicle for cloud and AI infrastructure, set standards, and mentor engineers, making foundational decisions on cloud architecture, IaC, CI/CD, and observability.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines and self-service tooling from a greenfield starting point.

  • Stand up and operate container orchestration with Docker and Kubernetes, including self-managed, stateful technologies.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration management using Terraform and Helm.
  • Implement reusable infrastructure as code modules and patterns.
  • Instrument monitoring, logging, and alerting across services and infrastructure using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK stack.
  • Define SLOs, error budgets, and operational health metrics.
  • Implement security best practices across infrastructure and deployment workflows.
  • Coach engineers new to DevOps/infra, run design reviews, and pair on hard problems.
  • Write documentation and playbooks to transfer expertise.
  • Build the MLOps foundation for AppGate's AI products, including model serving and inference pipelines.
  • Manage model deployment, versioning, and drift monitoring.
  • Implement experiment-tracking and lifecycle tooling.
  • Partner with data scientists, product teams, and leadership to align platform investment with strategic vision.

Requirements

  • Extensive DevOps, platform, infrastructure, or SRE engineering experience with a track record of operating production systems at scale.
  • Staff-level candidates typically bring 8+ years of experience; Principal-level candidates bring 12+ years.
  • Hands-on experience standing up infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines in a greenfield or early-stage environment.
  • Hands-on experience implementing observability across APIs, cloud services, and distributed systems.
  • Experience with SLO and error-budget practice.
  • Familiarity with implementing security best practices in infrastructure and deployment workflows.
  • Fluency in a primary backend language (Python, Go, or similar).
  • Strong bias toward automation, testing, and reliable, maintainable systems.
  • Demonstrated record of growing engineers and setting technical direction.
  • Comfortable being the most senior person in the room on this topic.
  • Pragmatic, rigorous, and ownership-driven mindset.
  • Thrive in a small, fast-moving environment.
  • Experience operating Kafka, Spark, Elasticsearch, or comparable stateful systems in production (preferred).
  • Experience building or operating model serving, inference pipelines, and MLOps tooling (preferred).
