About the Role
Howard University's Counseling Service (HUCS) offers an APA-accredited doctoral internship training program designed to prepare psychologists for work with diverse and underserved populations using a practitioner-scholar model. The program provides extensive supervision and training in various areas of psychology, fostering a collaborative and professional learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct individual counseling and psychotherapy
- Lead group counseling sessions
- Perform psychodiagnostics
- Conduct intake interviewing
- Participate in university outreach programs
- Complete rotational placements in inpatient psychiatry and forensic assessment
- Engage in direct service activities
- Participate in training activities
- Undertake administrative activities
- Engage in professional development
- Teach and supervise practicum students
- Co-teach a graduate-level counseling skills laboratory
- Conduct psychological assessments, including the Rorschach
- Write integrative reports for assessments
Requirements
- Enrollment in an APA-accredited doctoral program in clinical or counseling psychology
- Completion of required doctoral practical and comprehensive examination
- A minimum of 600 intervention hours is required
- A strong background in psychological assessment, including the Rorschach, is preferred
- Degree of self-disclosure during supervision and training seminars is expected
