About the Role
The School Age Multi-Site Director is responsible for the daily operations of the YMCA School Age Program, ensuring the education, health, welfare, and safety of enrolled children. This role emphasizes courtesy, respect, integrity, active listening, clear communication, embracing differences, continuous learning, and constructive criticism. Responsibilities
- Prepare the annual budget for the School Age program in conjunction with the Executive Director of Child Care and manage program expenses.
- Maintain program attendance ledgers and cooperate with the accounting clerk on outstanding balances.
- Administer meal planning and the CACFP program, submitting monthly paperwork and purchasing snack supplies.
- Establish program goals and objectives consistent with YMCA and NYS Office of Children and Family Services standards.
- Create, prepare for, and implement program lesson plans to meet grant objectives, ensuring necessary supplies are obtained in advance.
- Coordinate, plan, and execute the program and curricula for the School Age program with staff, ensuring high-quality standards.
- Complete monthly and quarterly program operations reporting.
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and appraise the performance of School Age teaching and support staff.
- Develop job descriptions, standards of performance, and performance appraisals according to YMCA Personnel Policies.
- Maintain departmental staff files and ensure staff fulfill training obligations.
- Designate a staff person responsible for compliance in the Director’s absence.
- Facilitate communication and provide leadership, modeling relationship-building skills.
- Review and evaluate staff performance, developing strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Provide personal attention and supervision to all aspects of the Child Care operation.
- Effectively communicate with parents verbally and in writing on a daily basis.
- Develop and implement a marketing plan for the School Age program.
- Interview prospective parents and children for School Age programs, completing and filing all registrations.
- Develop strong parent participation and community involvement, collaborating with supporting schools, advisory committees, and parent organizations.
- Monitor city and state day care activities and stay informed of current trends.
- Work closely with other YMCA Department Heads and the staff team.
- Attend staff meetings and in-service workshops to meet educational requirements, completing 30 training hours per licensing period.
- Attend parent-child and program-related events as requested.
- Participate in YMCA Volunteer programs such as Annual Campaign and United Way.
- Demonstrate quality standards in Character Development at all times.
- Promote Activate America principles in the program area.
- Maintain professionalism, alertness, and eliminate unsafe practices and hazards.
- Continue professional development through community involvement, reading, and further education.
- Carry out additional assignments and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
- Maintain appropriate relationships with community groups and organizations as a representative of the Olean YMCA.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a child-related field or equivalent academic preparation or experience.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills, including supervision, program development, and working with parents and children.
- Must pass a biannual health examination and TB test.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification required.
- Ability to pass State Central Register and criminal background clearances.
- Previous experience working with children.
- Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
- Regularly required to bend, stoop, kneel, twist, sit, reach with hands, grasp, stand, hear, speak, have finger dexterity, walk, push, pull and have visual acuity.
- Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
- Requires light physical effort such as frequent lifting of small children, or occasionally working in uncomfortable positions such as on the floor.
- Child Abuse Prevention training required before beginning work.
- Bloodborne Pathogens training required before beginning work.
- Slips, Trips, and Falls training required before beginning work.
- Sexual Harassment Prevention training required before beginning work.
- Foundations in Health and Safety training required before beginning work.
- Supervision of Children training required before beginning work.
- New Hire Orientation certification required within 90 days of hire.
- CPR and First Aid Certifications required.
