About the Role
This is a pivotal role focused on establishing a profitable construction liability proposition to complement and expand on our existing high-quality engineering and construction portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development and promotion of Munich Re Engineering and Construction products with a key focus on construction liability.
- Underwrite new and renewal business in line with underwriting guidelines and appetite.
- Work with the intermediary/customer to undertake end-to-end handling of cases for the allocated portfolio to deliver agreed joint business development plans in line with the Company’s overall trading strategy.
- Make effective on-site decisions, within delegated authority, for allocated intermediaries to ensure efficient completion of work.
- Deal with complex accounts, ensuring tailored solutions and risk-appropriate decisions.
- Plan and process own work to assist the team in meeting customer service and credit control targets.
- Undertake other duties as directed within the job function's scope.
- Support the creation and implementation of underwriting strategy, forecasts, and portfolio management for profitability and technical excellence.
- Identify, define, and develop business opportunities, seeking input from other staff to ensure swift and effective handling of business proposals.
- Assist in maintaining a balanced and high-quality portfolio, optimizing the use of gathered information.
- Deliver technical presentations as required.
- Act as a reference point for allocated intermediaries/customers or less experienced staff to ensure a high level of customer service.
- Ensure underwriting technical standards are maintained across the portfolio.
- Work with the Underwriting team to develop strong relationships with allocated intermediaries, balancing their needs with the Company’s trading objectives for profitable and balanced trading growth.
- Represent and promote Munich Re externally with intermediaries and customers.
Requirements
- High level of construction liability underwriting knowledge.
- Understanding of technical underwriting, philosophy, and Company trading strategy.
- Ability to interpret and effectively use management information.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge of local insurance market practices.
- Ability to build internal relationships with Line of Business Managers, team members, Underwriters, the Claims Department, and the Syndicate.
- Ability to develop external relationships with a range of contacts within allocated intermediaries, customers, and the local market.
