About the Role

The Millimeter Waves research group at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute researches wireless communication and measurement systems up to 500 GHz, focusing on innovative hardware and system solutions for high-frequency communication and 6G Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC). Join our team for a journey of research and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and control state-of-the-art RF laboratory instruments (e.g., Rohde & Schwarz signal generators, spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers) for system characterization and performance evaluation.
  • Design, set up, and validate RF measurement setups, evaluating their performance using digital signal processing methods.
  • Develop MATLAB and/or Python scripts to automate laboratory instruments and measurement sequences (e.g., VISA/SCPI-based instrument control).
  • Plan and conduct channel sounding campaigns in real propagation environments to characterize radio channels.
  • Post-process and analyze measurement data using advanced digital signal processing methods (e.g., spectral analysis, channel estimation, multipath extraction, object detection and localization).
  • Evaluate the sensing and communication performance of joint waveforms and measurement setups.
  • Support the Millimeter Waves group with project-related research, development, and experimental tasks.

Requirements

  • Experience with operating and controlling modern RF laboratory instruments.
  • Proficiency in designing, setting up, and validating RF measurement setups.
  • Experience with digital signal processing methods for performance evaluation.
  • Skilled in developing MATLAB and/or Python scripts for automation.
  • Familiarity with VISA/SCPI-based instrument control.
  • Experience in planning and conducting channel sounding campaigns.
  • Expertise in post-processing and analyzing measurement data using advanced digital signal processing methods.
  • Ability to evaluate sensing and communication performance.
  • Willingness to support research, development, and experimental tasks.
