About the Role
Aboriginal Permanency Coordinators serve as permanency consultants, advocates, and advisors to DCJ and Permanency Support Program (PSP) Service Provider staff. They foster a culture that prioritizes relational, physical, cultural, and legal permanency for children and young people, aiming to deliver better, more responsive, and culturally sensitive programs and services.
Responsibilities
- Consult on and review permanency options for children in statutory out-of-home care.
- Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships to support the Aboriginal Case Management Policy.
- Communicate respectfully and culturally appropriately with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.
- Utilize innovative solutions tailored to individual needs to achieve permanency within set timeframes.
- Provide advocacy to ensure DCJ, PSP Service Providers, NGOs, and government agencies meet their accountabilities.
- Identify practice and service gaps and collaborate with DCJ Commissioning and Planning teams and agencies to build capacity.
- Support restoration as the preferred permanency outcome.
- Provide practical field permanency support as needed.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in child protection or out-of-home care (DCJ or NGO).
- Current driver's licence.
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social Science Welfare or related discipline with a commitment to ongoing professional development (not essential for Aboriginal targeted roles).
- Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, identify as such, and be accepted by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
- Provide Confirmation of Aboriginality form or written confirmation from 2-3 Aboriginal organisations.
- Appointments are subject to reference checks and pre-employment checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check clearance.

- $129,464 - $133,105 p.a. + superannuation and annual leave loading
