About the Role
Assist in activities associated with safety and loss control while working on construction project or office location.
Responsibilities
- Assist with implementing Building L.I.F.E. (Living Injury Free Everyday) and project safety program.
- Identify and report safety violations or unsafe practices, with emphasis on situations of imminent danger to life or property.
- Coordinate safety duties for safety committees, preplanning meetings, and tool box meetings.
- Coordinate training at safety meetings, tool box meetings, and orientations.
- Review subcontractor safety programs for completeness and compliance with company policies.
- Promote safe work practices and safe working conditions in accordance with company, Federal, State and Local regulations, and owner/contractual requirements.
- Administer drug screening program aligned with company and/or client requirements.
- Participate in preconstruction meetings and conduct research, documenting meetings under direction of supervisor.
- Conduct jobsite and work area inspections and assist with developing inspection summary.
- Maintain safety records including pre-task plans, Job Hazard Analyses, training records, tool box meetings, OSHA 300 log, MSDS and chemical inventory sheets, and incident investigations and metrics.
- Conduct effective worker orientation program for new employees and administer and record participation.
- Perform other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned and under direction of supervisor.
Requirements
- Enrolled and actively pursuing college or university accredited degree program in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field of study, and minimum of 1 year of completed education, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles and techniques.
- Desire to work in construction management and to learn about construction industry.
- Flexible to work standard business hours and overtime as determined by assignment.
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills including student leadership, volunteerism, or other community involvement.
- Professional and clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Assume personal and professional accountability for own actions and activities.
- Proactive, curious, and eager to learn and participate.
- Able to work independently with direction and supervision, and in a team environment.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Able to take direction, learn and process information quickly, and follow tasks through to completion.
- Proficient computer and data entry skills, Microsoft Office suite of applications, and collaboration tools.
- Limited travel may be required, access to reliable transportation required.
- Physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction.
- Frequently required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands, talk, and hear.
- Frequently views a computer monitor and frequently uses a computer keyboard.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Regularly required to be mobile, and occasionally travels both short and long distances via a variety of conveyances.
- Occasionally performs work on-site at construction work sites, office locations, and/or off-site venues.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes, or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.
- Work in compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
