About the Role

SYSTRA Canada is seeking a Design Manager to oversee design deliverables derived from construction methodology and railway infrastructure integration. The Design Management function ensures design development aligns with the infrastructure scope, bundling strategy, schedule, and budget during the Development Phase. The team collaborates closely with the Design Lead/Manager and other members for successful project execution.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver project technical strategies, providing administrative and discipline-specific support to the project Technical Management Office.
  • Execute objectives and control activities during project development and implementation phases.
  • Manage and contribute technical recommendations to the pre-construction process by reviewing plans and documents.
  • Develop recommendations for proposed projects consistent with the strategic plan and business objectives.
  • Implement standards and manage critical paths/milestones through monitoring mechanisms.
  • Report project status regularly to the Director.
  • Manage conflicts effectively to ensure resolution with minimal disruption.
  • Track issues and manage investigations of potentially serious situations that could impede project quality and management.
  • Implement corrective measures and make contingency recommendations to minimize negative cost impacts.

Requirements

  • Completion of a degree in applied science, engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of project management experience in the design, construction, and assurance of heavy passenger rail transit systems in a brownfield environment and related works.
  • Valid Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) license recognized by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) or equivalent qualification is preferred.
  • Knowledge of railway infrastructure and related construction projects.
  • Knowledge of access improvement initiatives and how to drive them to achieve desired benefits.
  • Experience in planning complex, multidisciplinary construction works within operational corridors.
