About the Role
Introba is seeking an Environmental Designer to join its Climate & Sustainability team. This role will contribute to delivering sustainability consultancy services and supporting the growth of strategic sustainability offerings across various projects. The ideal candidate will be engaged with contemporary challenges in the built environment, sustainability, and environmental design, motivated to drive meaningful change.
Responsibilities
- Consider whole life carbon in decision-making, including operational energy and embodied carbon impacts.
- Support the Climate & Sustainability team in delivering projects, which may include policy assessments, climate resilience studies, and decarbonisation strategies.
- Work towards professional membership or chartership and actively pursue continued professional development.
- Undertake environmental analysis including energy performance analysis, MEP systems simulation, compliance analysis against UK and international energy codes, daylight, sun/shade, glare, external microclimate, and CFD.
- Carry out embodied carbon life cycle assessments for whole buildings and MEP systems, considering efficient material use and circular economy principles.
- Simulate heating and cooling loads to support mechanical system design and assess design compliance with UK regulations and standard methodologies, including associated report writing (e.g. Part L/O, BB101, TM52, TM54, TM59, TM65).
- Support the development of bespoke analysis methodologies to meet project requirements, using existing software workflows or contributing to the development of new tools.
- Contribute to the delivery of Net Zero Carbon outcomes, including zero-carbon roadmaps, decarbonisation strategies, policy development, and project design.
Requirements
- A relevant degree in engineering, architecture, or a related science discipline, with experience in the built environment.
- 1-3 years’ experience in environmental design and sustainability within the built environment.
- Knowledge and experience of dynamic modelling for compliance and operational energy analysis.
- Experience using energy modelling software such as IES, EnergyPlus, TAS, PHPP, SAP/HEM.
- Familiarity with environmental design tools such as Rhino, Grasshopper (Ladybug, Honeybee), Radiance, THERM, and/or scripting tools such as Python (desirable, not essential).
- Awareness of HVAC modelling; experience contributing to NABERS projects and an understanding of Passivhaus principles are advantageous.
- Developing relationship-building and client communication skills.
- Experience producing clear, high-quality technical reports.
- Strong attention to detail and a good standard of written English.
