About the Role

Provides support, advice, and problem-solving in human resources (HR) areas, assisting with the implementation, administration, and evaluation of HR programs. This role supports the Capital Delivery Services (CDS) Department’s Talent Acquisition and Compensation programs, focusing on assisting the employment team with the recruitment process, including scheduling interviews, completing pre-employment requirements, and onboarding new hires.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in implementing, administering, and evaluating HR programs.
  • Assists in developing and implementing systems, policies, procedures, strategies, and process workflows.
  • Provides information to employees and conducts basic research.
  • Advises and counsels management and employee groups on personnel policies and employment laws.
  • Assists in solving HR problems, creating best practices, and monitoring action implementation.
  • Researches information, compiles data, and writes informational documents.
  • Analyzes morale indicators and presents recommendations for corrective action.
  • Collaborates and participates on teams with HR and other stakeholders.
  • May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others.
  • Assists the employment team with the recruitment process.
  • Schedules and facilitates interviews.
  • Completes pre-employment requirements for top candidates.
  • Onboards new hires.

Requirements

  • Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience.
  • Ability to explain and demonstrate essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.

  • Ability to develop and maintain current knowledge in assigned HR areas.
  • Ability to develop and maintain knowledge and skill in computerized tools, databases, and communication techniques used in HR.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with City employees and the public.
  • A detailed, complete City of Austin employment application is required.
  • Describe specific experience as it relates to minimum and preferred qualifications on the application.
  • List all relevant experience on the employment application.
  • If selected as a top candidate, verification of education will be required.
  • If selected for this position, may drive when necessary to multiple locations if meeting Driver Safety Standards.

  • Providing excellent customer service by phone, in-person, and virtually with professionalism and tact.

  • The City of Austin has an established work arrangement under which an employee is scheduled to work at least 3 days per week at their designated worksite.

Experience Level

  • Two (2) years of related HR experience.

Education Level

  • Graduation with an Associate degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a related field.
  • Any combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Salary/Compensations

  • $25.22 - $29.70 / hour
