About the Role

Canada's National Ballet School (NBS) is seeking a full-time, permanent Residence Counsellor - Overnight to support the safety, wellbeing, and personal development of boarding students. This role involves creating a safe, supportive, and welcoming residential community and contributing to the transformative power of dance.

Responsibilities

  • Build trusting relationships with students by providing emotional support, guidance, and mentorship while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Supervise students within Residence and during activities, ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and adherence to Residence expectations.
  • Support students with their daily routines, including meals, appointments, activities, and evening and morning routines as required.
  • Encourage positive social interactions, healthy decision-making, independence, and conflict resolution while fostering an inclusive community.
  • Dispense medications and vitamins in accordance with NBS policies and maintain accurate documentation and student records.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to emergencies, accidents, illnesses, or behavioural concerns, completing required incident documentation.
  • Work closely with Residence leadership, counsellors, parents, medical professionals, faculty, and other departments to support student success.
  • Exercise sound judgement, discretion, and confidentiality while contributing to a respectful and positive living environment.

Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Child Studies, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field.
  • Two or more years of experience working directly with children and youth (approximately ages 10-19).
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent judgement, problem-solving, and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in emergency situations.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google Workspace.
  • Ability to accompany students using public transportation when required.
  • Successful candidates must supply Canada's National Ballet School with a Vulnerable Sector Check in accordance with the School's Child Abuse/Sexual Abuse Prevention Policy.
