About the Role

The Public Theater seeks a collaborative and creative Production Manager to coordinate technical execution and support for assigned productions and events. This role facilitates communication among production staff, other departments, and creative teams, while managing resources to meet company standards and maximize the Production Department's capacity in service to The Public’s artistic mission.

Responsibilities

  • Manage production process for each assigned project.
  • Facilitate information flow and activity alignment among production departments and with design teams, directors, stage managers, and other departments.
  • Manage production budgets and budget projections, ensuring designs align with available resources.
  • Facilitate communication, prioritization, and scheduling of production work during build, load-in, tech, previews, and load-out.
  • Ensure continued production support and maintenance throughout the project’s run.
  • Collaborate with fellow production managers and leadership to improve department capacity and work quality.
  • Actively support The Public’s commitments to safety, diversity, and respect in the workplace.

Requirements

  • Minimum five years of experience in theatrical production, with a strong background in production management, stage management, and/or technical direction.
  • Demonstrated personnel and budget management experience.
  • Effective communication skills, capable of adapting to different audiences.
  • Ability to align stakeholders toward common goals while negotiating competing priorities.
  • Ability to work constructively with artistic and technical collaborators and adapt to various personalities and working styles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Evening and weekend hours required during tech/previews for assigned projects.
