About the Role

The Activation Worker plans and conducts daily activation, recreational, and social programs for residents, aiming to improve and maintain their quality of life in alignment with the organization's resident-centered approach.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts timely and accurate assessment of residents upon admission and quarterly.
  • Prepares and monitors the effectiveness of care plans.
  • Plans and implements innovative regular and seasonal recreational and social activities, considering resident feedback, needs, and preferences.
  • Ensures activities are conducted in a safe, hygienic, and supportive environment, including one-on-one, small group, and large group activities.
  • Assists the Activation Manager in supervising volunteers who facilitate activation programming.
  • Mentors and works effectively with students and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Maintains and updates resident records.
  • Collaborates with staff from other disciplines to provide quality care.
  • Shops for cost-effective and appropriate program supplies and maintains accurate records of fees and expenditures.
  • Assists the Activation Manager in providing information and education to residents and their families.
  • Participates in in-service programs and professional development.
  • Stays up-to-date with developments and best practices in the field.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, or equivalent.
  • Experience in a social services or long-term care setting is an asset.
  • Experience and skills in facilitating activation and therapeutic recreation programs, preferably with the geriatric population.
  • Creativity and innovativeness in developing meaningful programs for clients within a tight budget.
  • Superb customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative to support clients and team positively and efficiently.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of Chinese word processing is an asset.
  • Current CPR Certificate.
  • Current Food Handler Safety Certificate.
  • Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Screen.
  • Ability to communicate in English and Chinese.
  • Successful applicants must provide a recent satisfactory vulnerable sector police reference check and medical clearance certificate.
  • Hiring process involves the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assist with screening of applicants' resumes.
