About the Role
AECOM is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our US Energy Practice, focusing on renewable projects. This role offers the flexibility to work remotely or from various Energy offices across the United States. The position emphasizes experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and requires a strong power engineering background to support client engagement and project delivery.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for electrical engineering design work on assigned projects under senior staff guidance.
- Collaborate with Project Engineer and Project Manager on developing design schedules and budgets for electrical engineering tasks.
- Design Solar PV and BESS systems, including array layouts, DC string sizing, equipment layouts, and utility interconnections for various mounting systems.
- Perform Solar PV and BESS system energy production modeling.
- Develop construction and equipment specifications.
- Conduct engineering calculations for NEC compliance, conductor sizing, overcurrent protection, utility disconnects, voltage drop, and conduit sizing.
- Develop and support construction drawings, including one-line and network diagrams.
- Estimate PV and BESS system costs and evaluate payback periods.
- Design DC and low to medium voltage power distribution systems.
- Support projects throughout their entire lifecycle, from feasibility to commissioning.
- Participate in and present at meetings, with occasional travel required.
Requirements
- BA/BS in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline with 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency.
- Demonstrated experience in the design and integration of utility-scale renewable and battery storage systems.
- Current professional engineering license (PE) and ability to obtain additional state licenses by comity.
- 8+ years of relevant experience preferred.
- Proficient in industry software such as Homer, NREL SAM, ForgeSolar, and Helioscope.
- Experience in MV AC Collection System Design.
- Experience in Protection and Controls.
- Knowledgeable in power system modeling in ETAP and/or SKM.
- Strong familiarity with the NEC, IBC, and NFPA 855.
- Familiarity with utility practices, industry codes, and standards (NESC, IEEE, PIP, etc.).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to lead engineering tasks.
- Experience with full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish.
- Capable of system financial estimation (Capex, Opex), PPA recommendation, and calculating ROI.
- Special design experience: floating PV, fuel cells, agrivoltaics, super capacitors, etc.
- Field construction and commissioning experience.
