About the Role
As a Surgical Coordinator for our Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) practice, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our surgical department. You will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of surgical procedures, from patient scheduling and pre-operative preparations to post-operative follow-ups. Your role will be pivotal in providing high-quality care to our OB/GYN patients.
Responsibilities
- Schedule surgical procedures for OB/GYN patients, considering patient preferences and physician availability.
- Coordinate initial consultations and assessments to evaluate surgical candidates.
- Educate patients on pre-operative and post-operative instructions.
- Ensure all necessary pre-operative tests, medical clearances, and consents are obtained.
- Collaborate with nursing staff to prepare patients for surgery, including reviewing dietary restrictions and medication guidelines.
- Communicate pre-operative instructions to patients and address questions or concerns.
- Liaise with hospital and ASC operating room staff and surgical teams to schedule procedures, ensuring all forms are completed and submitted, and resources are in place.
- Monitor the availability of surgical equipment, supplies, and instruments.
- Maintain accurate surgical records, including patient information and procedure details.
- Coordinate post-operative appointments for patients.
- Assist in tracking patient recovery and addressing post-operative concerns or complications.
- Communicate with patients regarding surgical outcomes and provide appropriate resources for recovery.
- Verify insurance coverage and obtain necessary pre-authorization for surgical procedures.
- Assist patients in understanding their insurance benefits and financial responsibilities.
- Coordinate with billing and insurance departments for accurate and timely billing.
- Adhere to all regulatory and compliance guidelines in handling patient information and surgical records.
- Maintain meticulous and organized records of surgical cases and patient information.
- Provide patients with educational materials and information about surgical procedures, potential risks, and expected outcomes as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in a surgical coordination or medical administrative role is preferred.
- Knowledge of OBGYN procedures and terminology is advantageous.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) and medical software.
- Familiarity with insurance verification and authorization processes.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with HIPAA regulations.
