About the Role
As a member of Corporate Security and Investigations, you will identify, investigate, and resolve allegations of fraudulent activity across all business lines to protect the assets and interests of the company, shareholders, policyholders, and customers.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate initial information to determine if an investigation is warranted
- Develop and implement investigation plans that meet required standards for criminal prosecution and/or civil action
- Analyze records and financial information from internal and external sources
- Conduct interviews with witnesses, clients, staff, and subjects of investigation
- Obtain written and/or audio-recorded statements from witnesses and subjects
- Gather and preserve evidence
- Document findings
- Prepare investigation reports for senior management, regulatory bodies, and law enforcement agencies
- Present evidence in court and/or tribunals as required
- Follow up on the processing of files, recoveries, restitution orders, etc.
- Make recommendations for the improvement of internal procedures and controls
- Identify high-risk areas across the organization that are particularly susceptible to fraud
- Develop and maintain relationships within the organization that foster the reporting of fraudulent activity
Requirements
- Bilingualism (fluent in French and English) required, as the incumbent will regularly serve our French and English-speaking clients
- At least 5 years of investigation experience, preferably in fraud and related offenses
- Education/skills gained through a post-secondary degree or equivalent
- Excellent investigation, interviewing, and interrogation skills
- Knowledge of Canada Life's different business lines is considered an asset
- Working knowledge of the rules of evidence
- Working knowledge of the Criminal Code, Canada Evidence Act, provincial insurance and securities legislation
- Experience presenting evidence and testimony in court is considered an asset
- Excellent report writing skills
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Knowledge of accounting principles
- Knowledge of the financial services industry
- CFI or CFE designation is considered an asset
- Reliability Status and Security Clearance - Only candidates who have received a job offer can undergo these checks. This is a personal security clearance required as a condition of employment. It must be obtained before an employee can access Protected B level information, assets or workplaces as indicated on the Government of Canada website. The costs associated with these checks will be covered by Canada Life
