About the Role
This role is responsible for delivering projects on TfL fire assets, leading and managing the on-site team, and delegating tasks to ensure fire systems assets are designed, installed, commissioned, and maintained according to scope and standards. The job holder must be committed to LUL’s General Safety Policy and safety program, monitor safety performance, and comply with relevant safety legislation.
Responsibilities
- Generate and collate supporting paperwork and files.
- Construct fire detection and alarm systems configuration files for new assets.
- Conduct commissioning of fire systems.
- Obtain and maintain appropriate licenses and certificates for the role and team.
- Identify task requirements and manage a worksite.
- Install, assist with commissioning, evaluate asset integrity post-commissioning, and declare assets fit for use.
- Gather information, report lack of information, assemble tools and equipment, and check fitness for purpose.
- Deal promptly and effectively with problems within their control and report deviations.
- Follow correct processes and operations for allocated tasks.
- Establish and maintain communication with relevant persons.
- Provide management, administration, and technical support to operational employees.
- Lead suitable duties associated with employees.
- Manage all stages of fire detection and alarm replacement and upgrade works, from design to commissioning and handover.
- Assist with all aspects of assurance requirements, including in-house and third-party audits.
Requirements
- Must obtain and maintain the appropriate licenses/certificates for their role and the team.
- Must be able to deal promptly and effectively with problems within their control.
- Must meet the requirements of a senior technician grade or equivalent (an Approved Electrician).
- Proven track record of managing small installation & commissioning tasks in a SPC role (Site Person In Charge).
- Must have demonstrated competence in Inspection and Testing.
- Able to lead/manage a team and take responsibility regarding quality and standards.
- Candidates must be able to demonstrate their right to work in the UK.

- This is a safety critical role requiring clearance from the Occupational Health team.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of fire detection, alarm, suppression and life safety systems.
- Understanding of installation and commissioning in an engineering discipline (preferably fire systems related).
- Competent in interpreting technical drawings, schematics and specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise workload effectively.
- Proficient in producing commissioning documentation, reports and test certificates.
- Good understanding of health, safety and quality assurance requirements.
- Delivers quality and customer satisfaction.
- Team working and good leadership skills.

Experience Level
- Senior technician grade or equivalent (an Approved Electrician)
- Proven track record of managing small installation & commissioning tasks in a SPC role (Site Person In Charge)
- Proven industry experience and demonstrated competency of electrical systems installations (preferably including fire systems), within the rail or LU environment.
Education Level
- EAL recognised L3 qualifications covering all aspects of BS 5839-1:2025.
- NEBOSH General Certificate (LVL3) or minimum LVL2 safety qualification.
- IET Effective Management Training.
- Manufacturer Product Training (AEL, Kentec).
- Fire systems related TFL CAT 1 standards & guidance.
