About the Role

The Technical Advisor will provide necessary technical support to the Toronto maintenance center teams. This role involves monitoring rolling stock performance and identifying/documenting reliability and safety issues.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical expert and resource for first and second-level technical failures for maintenance personnel, primarily related to locomotives and passenger rail cars (brakes, compressed air, diesel engines, control systems, traction motors, power circuits, HVAC systems, etc.).
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer and provide coaching to the mechanical and maintenance services team.
  • Manage technical failures that could jeopardize train departures (OTP), identifying and resolving issues promptly, especially in new or changing situations.
  • Align personnel and prioritize tasks to ensure work is completed according to standards and timelines.
  • Review train delays at the start of each shift, documenting data from Wi-Tronix and defects noted in virtual logbooks with the Mechanical and Maintenance Services team.
  • Support the mechanical and maintenance services management team in prioritizing defects and estimating repair times.
  • Apply technical expertise to improve rolling stock conditions and propose enhancements to the engineering team to boost reliability and performance.
  • Collaborate with the mechanical and maintenance team to track recurring defects, document causes, and suggest solutions.
  • Lead discussions with various teams (management, planning, unionized employees) to foster idea exchange for problem-solving and propose innovative solutions.
  • Conduct validations on equipment for engineering use in prototype design.

Requirements

  • Technical diploma (DEC or AEC) or electrical or mechanical certification (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of work experience with railway equipment or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a technical advisor is an asset.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Teams, Witronix, Quads, Railigent, Maximo would be an asset.
  • May be required to travel to support equipment on the road or at another maintenance center.
  • Night shift work.
  • Teamwork: Lead the team towards achieving objectives.
  • Collective learning: Mentor maintenance personnel and provide guidance on a range of topics.
