About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Technical Advisors & Labs, the Technical Advisor will provide technical support to the teams at the Toronto Maintenance Centre. The incumbent will be responsible for monitoring rolling stock performance and identifying/documenting reliability and safety-related issues.
Responsibilities
- Act as a subject matter expert for first- and second-level technical failures, supporting maintenance personnel in areas related to locomotives and passenger rail cars.
- Ensure knowledge transfer and provide coaching to Mechanical and Maintenance Services teams.
- Manage technical failures that could jeopardize train departures, resolving issues within short timeframes.
- Review train delays, document Wi-Tronix data, and record defects in virtual logbooks.
- Support the Mechanical and Maintenance management team in prioritizing defects and estimating repair times.
- Apply technical expertise to improve rolling stock conditions and propose enhancements to the Engineering team.
- Monitor recurring defects, document root causes, and recommend corrective solutions with Mechanical and Maintenance teams.
- Lead discussions to encourage idea sharing for problem resolution and propose innovative solutions.
- Perform validation activities on equipment for prototype design by the Engineering team.
Requirements
- Technical diploma (DEC or AEC) or electrical or mechanical certification (or equivalent).
- Minimum of eight (8) years of work experience with railway equipment or equivalent.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Technical Advisor (considered an asset).
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Teams, Wi-Tronix, QUADS, Railigent, and Maximo (considered an asset).
- May be required to travel to support equipment located on the road or at another maintenance center.
- Night shift.
