About the Role
Municipal Emergency Services, Inc. (MES) is seeking a full-time Service Technician (Air Products - SCBA) responsible for inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and testing Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus for firefighting personnel. The role ensures SCBA equipment is in optimal condition for emergency use and involves conducting service calls for preventative maintenance on 3M/Scott Safety SCBA and related equipment.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections and functional checks of 3M/Scott Safety SCBA and SCBA-related equipment.
- Conduct maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on 3M/Scott Safety SCBA and SCBA-related equipment.
- Conduct tests on Scott/3M SCBA units, such as pressure tests, airflow tests, and leak tests.
- Maintain detailed records of all inspection, maintenance, and repair activities.
- Calibrate and adjust SCBA equipment to ensure accurate readings and safe operation.
- Train end-users and other personnel on the proper use, care, and maintenance of SCBA equipment.
- Manage spare parts and replacement components inventory.
- Stay current with safety regulations and industry standards for SCBA equipment.
- Interact with customers and end-users, addressing their concerns and assisting with equipment-related issues.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in servicing and maintaining SCBA equipment is highly desirable.
- Additional technical training or certification related to SCBA equipment maintenance and repair is preferred.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, NFPA standards, and manufacturer-specific guidelines for SCBA equipment, preferably Scott/3M.
- Sound computer skills are essential.
- Willingness to travel extensively and with occasional overnight stays.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under deadlines.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to safety and quality.
- Good communication skills for interacting with customers and colleagues.
- Mechanically inclined.
- Previous experience servicing and maintaining HVAC equipment/systems, small engine repair, firefighting equipment, hydraulics, or cabling experience.
- Previous experience as a mechanic or electrician.
- Physical fitness and lifting and carrying SCBA equipment (up to 50 lbs.) is required.
