About the Role

We are looking for a senior underwriter to work closely with the Head of Delegated Authorities across multiple lines of business to meet business plan requirements and strategic targets for premium income, profitability, and return on capital.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite delegated business in accordance with the Syndicate Business Plan and underwriting authority.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients to establish Canopius as a preferred market.
  • Underwrite and oversee renewal business, and identify new business opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other underwriting and support units to maximize efficient use of internal resources.
  • Ensure all business written complies with Canopius internal policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Ensure business is accepted only through approved intermediaries and coverholders.
  • Maintain complete and accurate underwriting records.
  • Promote a culture where client needs are central to underwriting decisions and business conduct meets internal standards and FCA guidelines.
  • Actively assist and supervise the development of junior team members.
  • Ensure a fair, equitable, collaborative, supportive, and respectful workplace environment.
  • Provide reports and management information to the Head of Delegated Authorities.
  • Assist Syndicate actuaries in establishing reserves for the portfolio.
  • Ensure regular assessment of the risk environment and implementation of appropriate controls to mitigate loss.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in the North American delegated authority market.
  • Previous management experience preferable.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and manage workload priorities effectively.
  • Desire to expand knowledge within the industry via professional exams.
  • Experience with Power BI is preferable but not essential.
  • High level understanding of Excel, proficient in creating complex formulae.
  • Ability to interpret large volumes of data and present in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to articulate findings in writing and/or in person both internally and externally.
  • Interpret written guidelines for Underwriting rules and apply to real life scenarios.
