Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for examination including vital signs, height, weight, chief complaint, and medical history.
- Assist providers during examinations and minor procedures.
- Perform phlebotomy and collect and label specimens accurately.
- Conduct point-of-care testing.
- Administer immunizations, injections, and medications as directed.
- Document patient care in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms, including sanitizing and restocking supplies.
- Support infection control protocols and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Schedule patient appointments and coordinate follow-ups.
- Manage patient inquiries via phone, relay messages, and answer calls.
- Process referrals to specialists and imaging centers.
- Maintain patient records, update demographics, and ensure accuracy.
- Handle medical correspondence through faxing, scanning, and emailing.
Requirements
- Successful completion of St. Barnabas Hospital orientation.
Skills
- Excellent communication/interpersonal skills.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Knowledge of Computer Technology preferred.
Experience Level
- One (1) year previous experience in a medical setting of relevant experience required.
Education Level
- HS Diploma or Equivalence
- Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Program
