Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for examination including vital signs, height, weight, chief complaint, and medical history.
- Assist providers during examinations and minor procedures.
- Perform phlebotomy and collect specimens (blood, urine, swabs), ensuring correct labeling.
- Conduct point-of-care testing such as blood glucose, rapid strep, pregnancy tests, and urinalysis.
- Document patient care in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms by sanitizing and restocking supplies.
- Support infection control protocols and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Schedule patient radiology appointments.
- Answer phones, relay messages, and manage patient inquiries.
- Greet patients and manage the check-in/check-out process.
- Process referrals to specialists and imaging centers.
- Maintain patient records, update demographics, and ensure accuracy.
- Handle medical correspondence, including faxing, scanning, and emailing.
Requirements
- Successful completion of St. Barnabas Hospital orientation.
Skills
- Excellent communication/interpersonal skills.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Knowledge of Computer Technology preferred.
Experience Level
- One (1) year previous experience in a medical setting of relevant experience required.
Education Level
- HS Diploma or Equivalence
- Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Program
