About the Role
The Global Tax Structuring team seeks an individual responsible for European and global tax structuring, compliance, and legal matters. This role supports the investment process, monitors tax developments, partners with investment professionals, advises on strategic initiatives, and manages international tax compliance.
Responsibilities
- Support the investment process in connection with transactions undertaken by Oaktree managed funds including mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, reorganizations, and debt and equity financings.
- Monitor tax developments across Europe and APAC to assess potential investment portfolio impact and opportunities.
- Partner with portfolio managers and investment professionals with respect to ongoing portfolio optimization and tax management considerations.
- Advise on tax aspects of strategic initiatives and transactions, including corporate tax matters, complex partnerships and ad-hoc tax advisory projects.
- Support senior leadership in respect of strategic decisions.
- Assist with international audit and tax compliance management.
- Support the Global Client Group and other stakeholders on new product launches and tax considerations relevant to strategic client partnerships.
- Perform other tasks and projects as necessary.
- Develop and maintain relevant industry contacts and manage relationships with third party tax advisors, accounting firms and law firms with a continued focus on identifying best-in-class service providers.
Requirements
- 5-10 years legal experience within tax with a law firm and/or within the financial services or asset management industry.
- Strong understanding of partnership, corporate and interjurisdictional tax law principles.
- Significant experience with tax issues impacting private funds and investment managers operating in Europe and APAC.
- Working knowledge of US tax principles preferred.
- Proven capability in analyzing complex data, evaluating information and drawing logical conclusions.
- Demonstrates ability to identify key issues and propose solutions.
- Track record in planning and project management and in maintaining composure under pressure while meeting deadlines.
- Maintains a high level of integrity and professionalism at all times.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with focus on developing and improving efficient processes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a small team and speak in large group settings.
- Ability to resolve demanding situations in a professional manner.
- Able to work in a collaborative manner within a global organization.
- Exercises excellent business judgment and is aware of when it is necessary to escalate issues.
