About the Role
As a Mechanical Engineering Apprentice at Johnson Matthey, you will support the mechanical maintenance team with planned and reactive maintenance activities. You will learn to maintain and repair mechanical plant equipment, assist with fault finding and inspections, and follow safe systems of work. This role is crucial in helping Johnson Matthey tackle global challenges by applying, refining, and recycling metals for a sustainable future.
Responsibilities
- Supporting the mechanical maintenance team with planned and reactive maintenance activities across site
- Learning to maintain and repair mechanical plant equipment including pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, valves and pipework
- Assisting with fault finding, inspections and basic mechanical fitting under supervision
- Following safe systems of work and site safety procedures, taking responsibility for personal safety and correct use of PPE
- Completing apprenticeship coursework and maintaining a training and development portfolio
Requirements
- A minimum of 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades A*–C including English, Maths and Science
- An interest in engineering, mechanics or practical subjects
- A strong awareness of safety and willingness to follow procedures
- Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
- The ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with others
- Applicants must be non-smokers and have been free from nicotine products for at least 3 months
