About the Role

The Trained Teacher (Early Childhood Educator) develops and leads high-quality, developmentally appropriate programs to facilitate children's physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth. This role focuses on inclusive programming for children with special needs and fostering a supportive team environment within the classroom.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and organize a safe environment and supervise children to ensure their well-being.
  • Maintain equipment and the physical environment to be free of safety or health hazards.
  • Execute and evaluate daily programming using agency-approved curriculum to promote optimal development.
  • Facilitate planned and spontaneous experiences that encourage active learning.
  • Ensure compliance with the Child Care Early Years Act, Toronto Operating Criteria, Toronto Public Health guidelines, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Observe children's strengths, challenges, and interests to adapt programming to individual and group needs.
  • Collaborate with other staff members such as Assistant Teachers and Resource Teachers.
  • Demonstrate positive adult/child interactions and model mutual respect and kindness.
  • Communicate sensitively with parents regarding their child's learning, development, and activities.
  • Liaise with external agencies and schools to support children's progress.
  • Manage children's medication schedules and allergies.
  • Assist with bus drop-off and pick-up duties as required.
  • Perform housekeeping duties, including serving meals, preparing snacks, and maintaining a sanitary kitchen.
  • Supervise student teachers and assist with college evaluation forms.

Requirements

  • Early Childhood Education degree/diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with families and children, including those with special needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver inclusive programming.
  • Member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Strong working knowledge of ELECT and High Scope curriculum.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, and email.
  • Ability to build partnerships with diverse families, colleagues, and service providers.
  • Acceptable Vulnerable Police Record Check.
  • Current Standard First Aid certification.
  • Appropriate medical and immunization record.
